Gili Trawangan

Things to do in Gili Trawangan

SnorkelLing & Scuba Diving

Gili Trawangan offers spectacular snorkelling and scuba diving. Coral reefs and turtle nurseries can be found just meters from the main beach, providing world-class snorkelling and diving just footsteps from your accommodation. There are a number of reputable dive shops on the island that offer scuba diving for all abilities. If you're a beginner, you can try a fun introductory dive or enrol in a dive course.

Swimming

The island has white sand beaches with many areas perfect for swimming. Ask our staff to recommend the best swimming spots away from the precious coral. A number of the beachfront bars also have swimming pools where you are welcome to relax with your drink. Amalika Villa has a private swimming pool for you and your travelling partners to enjoy in seclusion.

Walking & Cycling

Gili Trawangan is renowned as a tropical oasis. There are no cars or motorbikes on Gili Trawangan creating a true island paradise. The main track that encircles the island has been paved in most parts, making walking and cycling easy. Bikes can be hired inexpensively and are a great way to explore the island and find your own quiet space on a white sandy beach. You can also walk or cycle through the centre of the island where you will find tranquil coconut groves and grazing cattle. If you’re feeling a little adventurous, take a short hike up the hill and take in the breathtaking views over the Gili Islands and mainland Lombok.

Health & Wellbeing

Take a morning yoga class, followed by a freshly blended tropical fruit juice and watch the sunrise over Mount Rinjani. Or maybe join the healthy few who jog around the island each morning or late afternoon. Sunrises on Gili T are just as spectacular as the sunsets, but only the early birds get to enjoy them. It's a wonderful way to start the day in the peace and quiet of the morning.

Treat Yourself

Gili T, as it's locally known, now has a number of day spas where you can be pampered with a massage, facial, manicure, pedicure, and like treatments. We now even have a hairdresser.

Watch a Breathtaking Sunset

The western side of the island, locally known as 'Sunset' can be reached either by a 15 minute walk, a 5 minute bike ride or by cidomo (pronounced chidomo) which is a horse-drawn cart. Our sunsets are nothing short of magnificent, especially at those times when it sets behind Mount Agung in Bali, rendering dramatic effects on both sea and sky – be sure to bring your camera! There are a few casual bars dotted along the west side, in addition to a few resorts, if you prefer your sunsets with a cocktail or cold beer.

Horse Riding

A relaxing way to explore the island of Gili Trawangan is by horseback. Stud Horse Riding Stables, located at Sunset Point, offers well-groomed horses and experienced riding guides. The terrain is undemanding and can also include a romantic canter through the surf for experienced riders.

Sea Kayaking

Explore the island in a kayak and maybe catch a glimpse of one of the many sea turtles that inhabit the Gilis – a serene way to pass some hours and see the island from a different perspective. We can arrange hire or a day trip to include lunch.

Golf

Mainland Lombok boasts the Kosaido Golf Country Club at Sire Bay, which can easily be reached from Gili Trawangan by boat and car. It is the only 18-hole championship course in Lombok. It offers magnificent views of Mount Rinjani on the northeast, and the Gili Islands off to the west. We can arrange a package to include transport to and from the golf course.

Relax in seclusion

Although our island is quite small, you can always find a secluded spot on the beach for some peace and tranquility. At certain times of the year you can be the only one on the beach for as far as the eye can see in particular areas.

Fishing

In certain parts around the three Gilis, fishing is permitted and private fishing tours can be arranged by the hour or the day. It's a great way to relax and take in the beautiful vistas of Lombok and the Gili Islands.

Island Hopping

Public 'Island Hopping' boats leave each morning and return each afternoon and are inexpensive. You can hop over to either Gili Meno or Gili Air, which are somewhat quieter than Gili Trawangan, and have a relaxing lunch at one of the many seaside restaurants and bars.
